The Menzendorfer See is a natural lake in the municipality of Menzendorf in the district of Northwest Mecklenburg in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania .
geography
The lake has an area of 36 ha and is up to 18 m deep. It belongs to the 2nd order waters and is owned by the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. The fishing rights are currently leased to a local fishing club.
The village of Menzendorf with the remains of an old round is located on the east bank of the Menzendorfer See .
Fish fauna
Bream , pike , crucian carp , carp , roach and pikeperch can be found in the Menzendorfer See .
Bird fauna
The Menzendorfer See is an important breeding and resting area for numerous protected bird species. Gray goose, water rail and reed warbler breed in the reed beds. Great crested grebes and goosander also raise their young at the lake. In autumn the lake is sleeping water for thousands of geese of different species that graze on the surrounding arable land. Long-tailed ducks and dwarfs hunters take their winter quarters here. There are also numerous species of large birds such as the red kite (breeding area) and the osprey. The Menzendorfer See thus represents an important stepping stone between the bird sanctuary on Dassower See and the bird sanctuary on Santower See.
