The Thomas Helms Publishing is a specialist publisher of North German culture, heritage conservation, local and regional studies, history, church and art history and is based in Schwerin in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern .

The publishing house was founded in 1994 by the Schwerin-based photographer Thomas Helms, who by then had already created the images for many books. He worked for Henschelverlag , Evangelische Verlagsanstalt , Union Verlag Berlin , Koehler & Amelang, EA Seemann , Christiansen, Wachholtz , Edition Temmen , Schnell and Steiner and Knaur, among others . His focus is on architectural photography, his particular interest is in the history and regional studies of Mecklenburg and Pomerania.

The publisher is a member of the German Book Trade Association .

Since the founding of the publisher, which was first called thomasius , more than 350 titles have been created, many of them in several editions, the focus is on the regional, cultural, architectural , church and art history of Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania. There are also a number of titles on North German contemporary history . The program includes both academic titles and popular science publications. The series “Contributions to the history of architecture and the preservation of monuments in Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania”, edited by Sabine Bock , now comprises thirteen important and in some cases multi-volume publications, and the series “Contributions to the history of the Pomeranian region, church and art”, founded by Norbert Buske 18 titles and in the series “History. Architecture. Art. Contributions to the cultural landscapes of Mecklenburg and Western Pomerania ”four volumes have been published.

Awards

Two authors of the publishing house were awarded the Annalize Wagner Prize for their manuscripts that were published by the publishing house . In 2007 Sabine Bock received the prize for her work Manorial houses on the estates and domains in Mecklenburg-Strelitz. Architecture and history ( contributions to the history of architecture and preservation of monuments. Volume 7.1–3), ISBN 978-3-935749-05-3 , and in 2016 Friederike Drinkuth was honored for her historical-biographical sketch about the Duchess Dorothea Sophie von Mecklenburg-Strelitz (1692– 1765) awarded under the title Male Than Her Consort. Duchess Dorothea Sophie von Mecklenburg-Strelitz ( ISBN 978-3-944033-00-6 ) has been published by the publisher.
