history
In 1924 the publishing house was founded by Karl Wachholtz , a newspaper publisher whose special interest was in the Low German language, the history and regional studies of Schleswig-Holstein and archeology. Originally the company was called Karl Wachholtz Verlag . In 1950 his son Ulf Wachholtz took over the book publisher. The publication of aerial photo atlases was added as a new division . They appeared for all of the German federal states at the time, Scandinavia and Austria. In 1969 his wife Gisela Wachholtz continued to run the publishing house. She included artistically illustrated works on regional studies and archeology in the publishing program. In 1994, her daughter-in-law Gabriele Wachholtz took over the management. In 2012, the publisher Sven Murmann from Kiel became the new sole shareholder of the publishing house. In January 2015 the publisher moved its headquarters from Neumünster to Kiel. The publishing house has a branch in Hamburg. The publishing house is run by Sven Murmann and the publicist Olaf Irlenkäuser as managing directors.
