Sven Murmann (born November 16, 1967 in Kiel ) is a German publisher , owner of Murmann Verlag and chairman of the board of trustees of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival .

Sven Murmann is the youngest of five children of the entrepreneur Klaus Murmann (1932–2014). His sister Ulrike Murmann is the main pastor of St. Katharinen in Hamburg and provost in the church district of Hamburg-Ost. His uncle Dieter Murmann and his cousin Philipp Murmann are also entrepreneurs and CDU politicians.

Murmann is married and has three children from his first marriage and a son from his second marriage.

Education and professional career

Murmann studied philosophy and political science at the Ludwig Maximilians University in Munich , at Harvard University in Cambridge (Massachusetts) and at the University of Zurich . From April 1994 to August 1995 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Munich, then went on a research visit to the Department of Philosophy at Harvard University in 1996/1997 and finally received his doctorate in 1997 with Georg Kohler at the University of Zurich with a thesis on democratic citizenship in transition: About our membership in the political system in times of plural social memberships to the Dr. phil. From October 1997 to October 1999 he worked as a research assistant at the University of Zurich and then completed an internship at IBM from December 1999 to May 2000 .

In February 2000 his father brought him back to Kiel after the merger of the family business Sauer with the Danish Danfoss Group . Sven Murmann became a member of the supervisory board of Danfoss A / S as well as managing director of Sauer Holding GmbH and the subsidiary Management Systems GmbH. From August 2000 to August 2002 he was also assistant to the management of HAKO Holding GmbH & Co. Since 2002 Murmann has a teaching position within the Studium Generale at the Bucerius Law School in Hamburg .

In 2004 Murmann acquired the Gerling Akademie Verlag in Munich, relocated to Hamburg and changed the publisher's name to Murmann-Verlag GmbH. In 2010 the Murmann family and Sven Murmann sold their shares in Sauer-Danfoss and brought the assets through Sauer Finance Holding to the asset management company Spudy & Co. Family Office GmbH, in which they have been the majority shareholder since 2006. After the merger of Spudy & Co with the asset consultants Döttinger / Staudinger in 2015 to form AURETAS Family Trust GmbH, Murmann acts there as chairman of the supervisory board.

After resigning from his corporate offices in 2010, Murmann concentrated on his publishing activities and acts as a managing partner there. After Murmann had taken over the renowned Schleswig-Holstein Wachholtz Verlag in Neumünster in January 2012 , in 2013 he acquired a stake in Pink University GmbH based in Munich, a publisher with an online platform for training videos in the field of in-company training, and in 2014 changed the Publishing name in Murmann Publishers GmbH. These publishers are bundled in the Murmann Publishers media and corporate group. He is also the publisher of the Kursbuch magazine and kursbuch.edition, which appear in the Kursbuch Kulturstiftung gGmbH.

Honorary positions

Murmann has been Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival since the end of 2005. In 2007 he was appointed to the supervisory board of HamburgMusik gGmbH - Elbphilharmonie and Laeiszhalle operating company ; this company has been operating as HamburgMusik gGmbH since 2017. He is deputy chairman of the board of directors of the Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft , deputy chairman of the supervisory board of the Stiftung der Deutschen Wirtschaft gGmbH and chairman of the board of trustees of the Klaus Murmann student funding foundation . He is also a member of the board of the Hamburg / Schleswig-Holstein State Board of Trustees of the Stifterverband .
