The Murmann School was a joint initiative of the entrepreneur Klaus Murmann, the Institute for World Economy in Kiel and the Christian-Albrechts-Universität zu Kiel. The concept was supported by the state government of Schleswig-Holstein.

The Murmann School of Global Management and Economics, founded in October 2006, was supposed to start teaching in the late summer of 2007 and, according to its own statements, wanted to deal with teaching and research in the global economy.

The proposed closure was announced on September 30, 2008. The reasons given were low market opportunities for the course due to similar offers from renowned universities and difficulties in filling professorships.

Sailing

Klaus Murmann was actively involved in sailing for many years. As a member of the Kiel Yacht Club (KYC), he was involved with several regatta yachts, all of which were called UCA , in major international sailing regattas . His maxi yacht UCA successfully took part in the Transatlantic Regatta DaimlerChrysler North Atlantic Challenge (DCNAC) in 2003 . With the UCA he has held the sailing record for the Skagen Rund regatta since 2000 . In 2005 the new UCA set the sailing record for the Mallorca Rund route .
