The DaimlerChrysler North Atlantic Challenge (DCNAC) was a transatlantic regatta that took place in June 2003.

The DCNAC 2003 started in two groups on June 14th and 21st, 2003. The main field started on June 14th, 2003. The starting line was in front of Newport (Rhode Island) USA in the Rhode Island Sound , at the historic Fort Adams. The regatta course over around 3,600 nautical miles led from the start to a ton in front of the Nantucket Shoals and on to an imaginary mark (Point Alpha), which was set as a safety point variably depending on the prevailing ice drift of the Labrador Current, further across the Atlantic Ocean in a northern one Arc around Scotland (including the island of Fair Isle ) through the North Sea to the destination in the Elbe estuary at the ( Alte Liebe lighthouse ) in front of Cuxhaven . The event ended with a maritime festival week on the Kehrwiederspitze from July 4 to 12, 2003 in Hamburg . The award ceremony took place in Hamburg City Hall.

63 yachts from twelve nations started in different classes, club teams consisting of two yachts each could be formed. Most yachts took about three weeks to complete the regatta course. Only seaworthy monohull yachts with a minimum hull length of 40 feet (approx. 12.20 meters) were eligible to participate. Not all participating sailing ships reached the destination in Cuxhaven. The skippers and their first watchmen had to prove their deep sea sailing experience (blue water). The regatta management expressly reserved the right to assess the suitability of the yachts themselves and to reject them if necessary. Ten participating yachts gave up due to accidents , the yacht Monsun sank on June 20, 2003.

The occasion for the regatta was the 100th anniversary of the Hamburg Maritime Association (HVS). The North German Regatta Association (NRV) from Hamburg organized this regatta together with the New York Yacht Club (NYYC) .

In order to meet the purpose and goals of the HVS, the largest possible number of seaworthy yachts should be able to take part in the DaimlerChrysler North Atlantic Challenge . Participation was wished for both sporty and ambitious cruisers, cruiser-racers and pure racing yachts (racers), as well as historic yachts. There were sufficient reports for all classes.

The maxi yacht UCA (owner: Klaus Murmann , Kiel) was specially designed and built for participation in the Daimler Chrysler North Atlantic Challenge 2003 . She reached the finish in Cuxhaven as the fastest, but was only second behind the Maxi-Yacht Zaraffa according to the calculated time.

The next regatta of this kind was the HSH Nordbank blue race and took place on June 16, 2007 with the starting gun off Newport (RI).
