In sailing, a mark is a point on the water that must be passed in the prescribed manner during a regatta ( match race or fleet race ). Path labels are moving, often anchored tons or buoys in. If a regatta course is aligned with the wind direction , the lane marks are also shifted shortly before the start. Depending on the position of the mark in relation to the wind direction, a distinction is made between windward and leeward markings.

According to the regatta rules, no markings may be touched. This is made more difficult by the mobility of the markings and the efforts of the regatta participants to save time by circumnavigating them as closely as possible.
