The company Durowe GmbH ( D eutsche U hren Ro h We rke) is a German manufacturer of clockworks based in Engelsbrand .

history

Durowe was founded on October 23, 1933 as Deutsche Uhrenrohwerkefabrik, L. Hummel & Co by the watch manufacturer Ludwig Hummel ( Laco ) in Pforzheim and was one of the most important watch raw works suppliers in Germany until the end of the 1970s .

During the National Socialist era , the company produced armaments for the German army. Along with many other Pforzheim companies, Durowe was also a member of the Pforzheimer Barackengemeinschaft e. V. , which maintained various camps for foreign and forced laborers.

developments

In 1952 the Cal. 552 (Duromat) started series production of the first automatic movement produced in Germany. The first buyer was the Primato company with the Super Automatic model , which was difficult to sell alongside the Swiss brands due to the high price. Durowe developed the electric wristwatch (stepper motor) as early as the late 1950s .
