Hans-Heinrich Schmid

Hans-Heinrich Schmid (* 1954 in Rottweil ; † November 11, 2018 ) was a German non-fiction author and expert on the history of the watch industry.

Life

Hans-Heinrich Schmid has had a hobby with table and wall clocks since 1991/92 , but he also began to be interested in their manufacturers (mark). First he compiled information about the manufacturers for the watches in his own collection, over time he expanded the scientific research through a targeted study of sources (watch literature, watchmaker newspapers, company address books, etc.) to include all watch manufacturers in German-speaking countries .

In April 2005, Hans-Heinrich Schmid published his research results in the Lexicon of the German Watch Industry 1850-1980 , which was able to establish itself as a standard work on the German watch industry on the day it was published. For the lexicon, the state of Baden-Württemberg received him at the “24. State Prize for Local Research ”was awarded a certificate of recognition for“ outstanding achievements in local research ”and the work was handed over to the House of History in Baden-Württemberg . In the years that followed, Schmid gradually expanded the work: The second edition comprised two volumes with almost 1,000 pages, the third, 1,260 pages published in 2017.

Hans-Heinrich Schmid was a member or cooperation partner of various watch museums and associations for watch enthusiasts, e.g. B. Musée International d'Horlogerie in La Chaux-de-Fonds , Clock Industry Museum Schwenningen , German Clock Museum Furtwangen , Foundation German Clock Museum Glashütte , City Museum Schramberg , Local Museum Mühlheim / Danube , German Society for Chronometry .

He lived and worked in the Swabian Alb and lectured and published regularly on all kinds of watch topics.

In November 2018, Hans-Heinrich Schmid died with his family.
