Hans Heinrich Schmid

Hans Heinrich Schmid (born October 22, 1937 in Winterthur ; † October 4, 2014 ; resident in Zurich ) was a Swiss Protestant Reformed theologian , university professor and university rector .

Life

The son of the Zurich pastor Gotthard Schmid (1909–1968) studied theology at the Universities of Zurich and Göttingen and received his doctorate in Zurich in 1965. In the winter semester of 1966/67 he received his habilitation in Zurich and one year later he was given an assistant professorship. Schmid was a full professor of Old Testament science from the 1969 summer semester and rector of the Bethel Church University from 1972 . In the 1976 summer semester, he became a full professor for Old Testament science and general religious history at the University of Zurich. From the summer semester 1978 to the winter semester 1979/80 he was dean of the theological faculty . From 1984 to 1990 Hans Heinrich Schmid was chairman of the Scientific Society for Theology . From 1988 to 2000 he was the rector of the University of Zurich, which in 1998 was separated from the cantonal administration and made independent.

Hans Heinrich Schmid was married from 1962 and had two sons and two daughters.
