Joachim Mehlhausen

Joachim Mehlhausen (born June 3, 1935 in Berlin , † April 3, 2000 in Düsseldorf ) was a German Protestant theologian and church historian .

After studying Protestant theology in Hamburg, Zurich, Basel and Bonn Mehlhausen 1965 with at Bizer Ernst created work for Dr. theol. PhD. As Bizer's assistant from 1965 to 1973, he was able to complete his habilitation in 1971 . In 1973 he became pastor of the Bonn Kreuzkirchengemeinde, and in 1976 he became a regional councilor of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland . As a senior church councilor and full-time member of the Rhenish church leadership, he was responsible for the training and testing of theological offspring from 1981 until he was appointed to a professorship for church history and church order at the University of Tübingen in 1987 . He worked here until autumn 1998 when he lost consciousness permanently due to a stroke.

After working on the history of the Reformation and the 19th century, Mehlhausen's research in the last decade of his life was mainly devoted to German Protestantism under National Socialism and in the post-war period. Since 1988 he has been chairman of the Evangelical Working Group on Contemporary Church History . He was also co-editor of the theological lexicon Theologische Realenzyklopädie and the journals Evangelical Theologie , the journal for church history and proclamation and research . From 1990 to 1995 he was first chairman of the Scientific Society for Theology .
