Dietrich Meyer (theologian)

Dietrich Meyer (born September 23, 1937 in Mocker , Leobschütz district , Upper Silesia province ) is a German Protestant theologian and church historian.

Live and act

After graduating from high school in Cologne , Meyer studied Protestant theology in Berlin , Bethel , Tübingen , Basel and Bonn from 1957 to 1961 . In 1963 he was at the University of Hamburg with a dissertation on Nicolaus Zinzendorf to Dr. theol. PhD and ordained in 1965 . After serving as an assistant preacher in Holpe near Waldbröl , he taught at the Near East School of Theology in Beirut from 1967 to 1971 . He then trained as an archivist and began working in the archive of the Evangelical Church in the Rhineland in Düsseldorf in 1973 . Appointed Head of the Archives in 1976, he retired in 2000.

Meyer has published and edited numerous works, especially on Pietism and the recent church history of Silesia and the Rhineland. A special focus was on biography research. He was (co-) editor of the Yearbook for Silesian Church History , the monthly issue for Rhenish Church History and the series of publications of the Association for Rhenish Church History . He is chairman of the Silesian Cultural Works Foundation, founded in 1952, and a member of the Historical Commission for Silesia .
