Bernd Hey

Bernd Hey (born May 5, 1942 in Bielefeld ; † January 27, 2011 there ) was a German historian and archivist .

Life

Hey, who was born and raised in Bielefeld, studied history, German, journalism, philosophy and education at the University of Münster from 1961 to 1968 . After two state examinations for higher teaching qualifications, in the 1970s he was assistant in the subject of history and its didactics at the Pedagogical University of Westphalia-Lippe , Bielefeld department. In 1980 Hey completed his habilitation at Bielefeld University and worked at the Faculty of History there (temporary professor since 1984, adjunct professor since 1991). From 1985 to 2007 Hey was director of the regional church archive of the Evangelical Church of Westphalia . In 1996 he was elected a full member of the Historical Commission for Westphalia . Between 1997 and 2009 he was also chairman of the Association for Westphalian Church History .

research

The main focus of his research was general and ecclesiastical contemporary history , as well as Westphalian regional history , especially since his dissertation on the history of the Westphalian regional church in the time of National Socialism (1974) and as the archival administrator of Kurt Gerstein (1905-1945), who served as an SS officer tried in vain to inform the world public about the Holocaust . Hey introduced the topics of historical excursions and nature trails, leisure didactics and tourism history to university teaching and historical educational work , together with Joachim Radkau , among others .
