tasks and goals

“Communications on contemporary church history” - Vol. 9/2015

The Protestant Working Group for Contemporary Church History has the task of promoting research into contemporary church history through the suggestion, implementation and publication of academic work, in a scientifically independent manner. It strives to clarify basic scientific questions, promotes the international exchange of work results and strives for cooperation with other institutions of contemporary history research as well as the coordination of contemporary history research projects within the Evangelical Church in Germany.

The working group carries out its own research projects at its research center and organizes specialist conferences. With source editions, contemporary historical research is provided with an empirical material basis for further investigations. The studies developed within the framework of the working group cover the broad field of church historiographical , individual questions based on the source material to theoretical basic problems of one's own discipline.

Separate series of publications are available for both the source editions and the monographic representations: the works on contemporary church history, series A sources and series B representations. The annual reports on contemporary church history contain essays on the German and European church and denominational history of the 20th century; its report and news section provides information on ongoing activities in the field of contemporary church history.
