Veronika Albrecht-Birkner

Veronika Albrecht-Birkner (born June 9, 1963 in Greifswald ) is a German Protestant theologian . Albrecht-Birkner has been professor of church history at the University of Siegen since 2009 .

Life

Albrecht-Birkner attended the polytechnic high school on Usedom and completed training as a nurse . After completing a high school diploma at the Adult Education Center in Genthin , she began studying Protestant theology at the Theological Seminary in Leipzig in 1984 . She then completed a vicariate in Leipzig .

In 1998 Albrecht-Birkner received his doctorate from the Theological Faculty of the Martin Luther University Halle-Wittenberg with a dissertation on the reforms of Duke Ernst the Pious of Saxe-Gotha as a doctor of theology . Her dissertation was published in 2002 under the title Reformation of Life. The reforms of Duke Ernst the Pious of Saxe-Gotha and their effects on piety, school and everyday life in rural areas (1640–1675) published as the first volume of the monographic series Leucorea Studies on the History of the Reformation and Lutheran Orthodoxy .

From 1997 to 2000 she was a research assistant in the Spener - Francke letter exchange project of the German Research Foundation at the Interdisciplinary Center for Pietism Research at the University of Halle and at the Spener office at the Ruhr University in Bochum . From 2000 to 2002 Albrecht-Birkner was managing assistant at the Center for Pietism Research in Halle , from 2002 to 2008 research assistant at the Chair for Modern Church History at the University of Halle's Theological Faculty and from 2008 to 2009 research assistant at the Interdisciplinary Center for Pietism Research.

In 2009 Albrecht-Birkner took over a professorship for church history at the University of Siegen. In 2018 she qualified as a professor at the Theological Faculty of Leipzig University . The topic of her habilitation thesis was Heritage Norms Daily Themes. Halle theologians in the field of tension between the university, the orphanage and the Berlin court (1750–1794) . Her main research interests are Lutheran and Reformed Pietism as well as the church history of the Siegerland and the GDR .

Albrecht-Birkner is a member of several commissions and working groups, including the commission of the Evangelical Working Group for Contemporary Church History , the Historical Commission for Research into Pietism , the Association for Church History of the Church Province of Saxony and the Historical Commission of the German National Committee of Lutheran World Federation . She is the author and editor of numerous specialist publications as well as the editor of the multi-volume pastors' book of the ecclesiastical province of Saxony . As a co-author she writes for the concise dictionary Religion in Past and Present and for the Lexicon of Theological Works . In 2012 she was awarded the Jubilee Medal of the University of Wroclaw .
