history

The history of the annual reports for German history goes back to the year 1880, when the Historical Society in Berlin began to publish annual reports on historical studies . After an interruption since 1916, the annual reports for German history were brought into being in 1926 under the direction of Albert Brackmann and Fritz Hartung . These appeared up to 1942 with a bibliographical section and progress reports on the state of research on various topics in German history. In 1950 work on the annual reports was resumed, this time under the care of the German Academy of Sciences in Berlin . The “New Series” of annual reports begun in 1952 no longer contains research reports, but only systematically structured bibliographies.

The company continued through the eventful history of Berlin and was a recognized instrument of historical research in East and West even during the division of Germany. After reunification, the company was continued by the Berlin-Brandenburg Academy of Sciences, where it is still located today. From 1993 to 2004 Wolfgang J. Mommsen was the project manager of the academy project ; from 2005 to 2015 the annual reports were headed by Christoph Cornelißen . At the end of 2015, the continuation of the annual reports for German history was discontinued. The database can still be called up.

The annual reports for German history include approx. 764,000 titles of monographs and articles from the years of publication 1949 to the end of 2015. For each title there is a permalink, various output formats, an option to transfer to BibSonomy and a link to the Karlsruhe Virtual Catalog (KVK) . The titles are tagged and assigned to epochs and subject areas. There are clear networking options via the common authority file (GND) and a GND beacon file.

Manifestations

From 1927 to 2009 the bibliography was published as an annual printed volume. From 1996 to 2002, cumulative editions were also published annually on CD-ROM . From 2010 the bibliography was only continued as a database. The complete database has been available online since the beginning of 2003, currently complete with publications since the beginning of the New Series from the reporting year 1949. The volumes from 1925 to 1938 have been retro-digitized and are also accessible online. The data are linked to the German biography .
