Christoph Cornelißen

Christoph Cornelißen (born November 7, 1958 in Kempen ) is a German historian .

From 1978 to 1985, Christoph Cornelißen studied history, English and education at the University of Düsseldorf and the University of Stirling . In 1986 he passed the first state examination in English and history. From 1986 to 1992 he was a research assistant at Saarland University . There he received his doctorate in 1991 with the work The role of the higher English civil service in building the British welfare state 1893-1919 . From 1992 to 1997 Cornelißen worked as a research assistant at the University of Düsseldorf. From 1999 to 2003 he was visiting professor at the Institute for International Studies at Charles University in Prague . In 2000, Gerhard Ritter carried out the investigation . History and politics in the 20th century the habilitation. A substitute professor at the University of Düsseldorf followed in 2001. Since 2003 he has taught as professor for modern and contemporary history at the University of Kiel . In May 2011 he accepted a professorship for Modern History at the University of Düsseldorf , and since April 1, 2012 he has been Professor for Modern History at the University of Frankfurt . Since February 2017 he has been director of the Istituto storico italo-germanico in Trento.

His main research interests are British history in the 19th and 20th centuries, the history of German and international historiography, the history of migration in Europe, the methods and theoretical questions of historical studies, international comparative research into cultures of remembrance and the history of Europe. Cornelißen has been a member of the German-Czech and German-Slovak historians ' commissions since 2003, and has been chairman of their German sections since 2012. Since 2005 he has been the project manager of the annual reports for German history , since 2010 co-editor of the journal History in Science and Education . He is a member of the Historical Commission for Hesse-Nassau and the Frankfurt Historical Commission .

Cornelißen is married and has one child.
