The magazine story in Science and Education (short- GWU ) is a historiographical and history teaching journal . It was founded in 1950 by Klett Verlag and is now published by Friedrich Verlag .
Until 2008 it operated as the "Journal of the Association of German History Teachers ". The association published information on its activities in the magazine and at the same time provided information about recent developments in education policy and questions relating to the curriculum. Since 2008, the magazine Geschichte has taken on this for today .
GWU is the successor of the journal Past and Present - Journal of the teaching of history and civic education in all kinds of schools , on behalf of the Association of History Teachers in Germany - in the Nazi era in the National Socialist Teachers League incorporated - in the Teubner publishing house in Leipzig from 1911 to 1945 was relocated. The editors were Moritz Edelmann during the Nazi era and Wilhelm Mommsen until 1936 .
Founding editors in 1950 were Karl Dietrich Erdmann (until 1989) and Felix Messerschmid (until 1980), and Gerhard Aengeneyndt was the founding editor. The publishers were Klett Stuttgart and Friedrich Verlag (Seelze). Co-editors were from 1976 to 2009 the Bielefeld history didactic Joachim Rohlfes , from 1987 to 1998 the Göttingen / Berlin mediavist Hartmut Boockmann and from 1990 to 2012 the Munich early modern historian Winfried Schulze .
The current editors (as of 2018) are the Frankfurt modern historian Christoph Cornelißen (since 2010), the Göttingen history didactic Michael Sauer (since 2004) and the Berlin early modern historian Peter Burschel (since 2013).
The magazine appears monthly and publishes articles on a specific topic. The magazine aims to inform history teachers about current developments in the subject. To serve u. a. the regular literature reports on the various historical sub-disciplines and subject areas.
