Michael Sauer (historian)

Michael Sauer (born December 10, 1955 in Wuppertal ) is a German history teacher .

Life

Sauer studied German and history at the University of Hanover . In 1983 he received his doctorate there with a study of Bertolt Brecht's reception at school. Habilitation in 2002 at the University of Kassel . In 2004 he followed Horst Kuss as professor at the chair for didactics of the history of the Georg-August-Universität Göttingen .

His areas of work were initially literary didactics and then the history of education . Sauer has published monographs and articles in both areas. Since the mid-1990s, his work has focused on history didactics . There he mainly dealt with media and methods of history teaching , but also presented empirical studies. Its Introduction to Didactics and Methodology, which was first published in 2001, has been published in numerous editions and is considered a standard work. He has also published monographs on image sources, text sources and songs.

Sauer is the (co-) editor of the magazines "Learn History" and History in Science and Education as well as the textbook series "History and Events" published by Ernst Klett Verlag . From 2007 to 2011 he was deputy chairman of the Association of Conference for History Didactics, from 2011 to 2015 its chairman.
