Ernst Wolf (theologian)

Ernst Wolf (born August 2, 1902 in Prague , † September 11, 1971 in Garmisch-Partenkirchen ) was a German Protestant theologian (professor, inter alia, of church history and systematic theology).

Life

He studied a. a. in Vienna, Rostock and Leipzig and after a substitute chair from 1930 in Halle, he became Professor of Church History and Christian Archeology at the University of Bonn . From 1935 until 1942 he taught at the University of Halle . After being drafted into the Wehrmacht and as a prisoner of war , he taught the history of dogma from 1945 and systematic theology at the University of Göttingen from 1957 .

As a leading member of the Confessing Church , he leaned on Karl Barth's dialectical theology . He was a member of the “Freiburg Council” . Ernst Wolf took part in the work of the Christian Peace Conference and took part in its second meeting in April 1959 in Prague .

Wolf was editor of the journals Evangelical Theology , Annunciation and Research and sheets for German and international politics .
