Gerhard Heintze

Gerhard Johannes Wilhelm Theodor Heintze (born November 14, 1912 in Wehre ; † December 14, 2006 in Stuttgart ) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Heintze studied Protestant theology in Tübingen , Göttingen and Manchester and was ordained on October 15, 1938 .

From 1940 to 1942 he was study inspector in Loccum . In 1942 he took over a pastor's position in Twielenfleth (Stade district), which he held until 1946. From 1946 to 1950 he was mission inspector in Hermannsburg , from 1950 director of studies at the Erichsburg seminary near Northeim, which was relocated to Hildesheim in 1953 .

In 1957 he was elected superintendent in Hildesheim , and in 1961 he became state superintendent for the Hildesheim district . In 1965 he was elected regional bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Braunschweig . He held this position until his retirement in 1982. From 1975 to 1982 he was also Catholica representative of the VELKD , from 1978 to 1981 he was the leading bishop of the VELKD. For a time he was deputy chairman of the Working Group of Christian Churches in Germany (ACK) and member of the presidium of the Conference of European Churches (KEK).
