Ernst Henze (theologian)

Ernst Henze (born September 13, 1926 in Hanover ; † February 20, 2008 in Bad Salzdetfurth ) was a Lutheran theologian and state superintendent for the Hildesheim district of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover and abbot of the Amelungsborn monastery in the Weserbergland .

Live and act

Ernst Henze was the second child of four in 1926 in Linden near Hanover. His parents, the teacher Ernst Bruno Henze and his wife Elisabeth Martha nee. Müller, born. From 1948 to 1952 he studied theology at the Universities of Münster and Göttingen . From 1952 to 1953 he completed his vicariate in Jeinsen with Pastor Günther and from 1953 to 1955 he attended the preacher's seminary in Imbshausen near Northeim . After his ordination, he first worked as an assistant pastor in the regional church office for community service in Hanover, before he was appointed pastor of the regional church there in 1956. From 1958 to 1963 he took over the parish pastor of the New Town Church in the city of Hanover and was promoted in 1963 to Senior Church in the country Church Office Hanover Lutheran Evangelical the Church of Hanover, where he most recently served as Oberlandeskirchenrat.

From 1969 until his retirement in 1991 he was Superintendent of the diocese of Hildesheim; During this time he preached in the St. Michaelis Church in Hildesheim . As a state superintendent, he was a member of the Bishops' Council of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Hanover and a member of the governing bodies of the Evangelical Lutheran Mission in Lower Saxony and the Diakonische Werke Himmelsthür .

In 1968 he became a conventual of the former Cistercian monastery Amelungsborn and worked there from 1989 to 1996 as abbot of this Protestant monastery in the Holzminden district .

He last lived in Bad Salzdetfurth, Lower Saxony . His grave is in the cemetery of the Amelungsborn monastery.
