Horst Hirschler (born September 4, 1933 in Stuttgart ) is a Lutheran theologian . He is the retired bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover and abbot of the Loccum monastery .

Life

From 1951 to 1954 Horst Hirschler did an apprenticeship as a heavy current / industrial electrician at Bosch in Hildesheim . During the last year of his apprenticeship and first year as a journeyman, he attended evening grammar school, where he passed his Abitur in 1955.

From 1955 to 1959, Hirschler studied theology at the Bethel Church University and at the Universities of Tübingen , Heidelberg and Göttingen . During his studies he was temporarily entrusted with looking after young refugees from the Soviet occupation zone in the Sandbostel camp . He completed his vicariate in Syke and attended the St. Michaelis seminary in Hildesheim.

From 1962 to 1965, Hirschler was a school pastor for the Hanoverian regional church in the regional youth parish of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover and at the same time regional administrator of the Evangelical Young Society BK (school Bible circles) in Lower Saxony. Then he was parish priest for five years, first in Lüneburg , then in Deutsch Evern .

In 1970 he was appointed Conventual Director of Studies of the Loccum Monastery Seminary . In 1977 he was appointed state superintendent for the Göttingen district . From 1988 to 1999 he took over the office of regional bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover until he retired.

Honors

In 1992 he received an honorary doctorate from the Church of Leipzig University and is also an honorary senator of the University of Göttingen. In 2009 Horst Hirschler was awarded the Preaching Prize of the Verlag für die Deutsche Wirtschaft (Bonn) for his life's work . 2004 Lower Saxony State Medal and Grand Cross of Merit of the Lower Saxony Order of Merit
