Friedrich Rupstein

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friedrich Rupstein (born September 3, 1794 in Wunstorf , † October 7, 1876 in Hanover ; full name Johann Georg Friedrich Rupstein ) was a theologian and long-time abbot of the Loccum monastery .

Life

Rupstein was the son of the mayor of Wunstorf , who died soon after Friedrich was born, so that his son had to grow up with relatives.

After studying theology in Göttingen (1813-1816), Rupstein attended the Hanover Preachers' Seminary until 1819 and in 1820 became a chaplain . Since there were hardly any candidates to succeed the abbot of the monastery, Johann Christoph Salfeld , who died in 1829 , the young Rupstein was unanimously elected abbot in 1832. He headed the monastery until his death in 1876 and in this function was also the highest-ranking clergyman of the Lutheran regional church of Hanover. As senior consistorial advisor, Rupstein was concerned with church reform in the Kingdom of Hanover for a long time .

Rupsteinstrasse

Rupsteinstrasse, which was laid out in the Hanoverian district of Kleefeld in 1929 and leads from Kirchröder Strasse to Senator-Bauer-Strasse, has since honored the Loccumer abbot with its name.
