Christoph Heinrich Chappuzeau

Christoph Heinrich Chappuzeau (born January 1, 1726 in Hanover ; † October 21, 1791 there ) was an Evangelical Lutheran theologian and abbot of the Loccum monastery .

Life

Christoph Heinrich Chappuzeau, son of the Hanoverian court medicus Albrecht Ludwig (1686–1748) and great-grandson of the French travel writer Samuel Chappuzeau , studied theology in Leipzig and Göttingen . In 1752 he became pastor in Clausthal. In 1759 he was appointed general superintendent of the general diocese of Grubenhagen and on the Harz . After a brief activity as pastor at the Hanoverian Kreuzkirche in 1755, Chappuzeau came back to Hanover in 1762 and was second court preacher and consistorial councilor. In 1768 he became coadjutor and in 1770 abbot of the Loccum monastery. During his 20-year term in office, numerous new buildings were built on the monastery grounds, especially the convent building completed in 1778. He also initiated numerous new acquisitions for and a reorganization of the monastery library.

His son Georg Eberhard Anton (1769–1848) from his marriage to Sophia Johanne Flotho (1733–1807) became pastor in Ahlden .
