Christoph Stier (born January 7, 1941 in Magdeburg ) is a German theologian and pastor. From 1984 to 1996 he was regional bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mecklenburg .

Live and act

After attending primary and secondary schools in Halle , he studied theology at the University of Rostock from 1959 to 1964 . After the first exam he temporarily stayed as a research assistant at the university. After his vicariate, he took over a parish office in the Rostock development area of ​​Lütten-Klein in 1970. In 1984 he was elected regional bishop by the Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mecklenburg as successor to Heinrich Rathke . He held the office until 1996. His successor was Hermann Beste . From 1986 to 1988 he was also the leading bishop of the United Evangelical Lutheran Church in the GDR . From 1997 until his retirement in 2004 he worked as state superintendent of the East Mecklenburg parish of Stargard. He is currently still a member of the advisory board of the federal commissioner for the Stasi records .

He is married and has 3 children. Music is one of his secondary occupations. He is a lay flutist.
