As a church parliament, the regional synod is the highest decision-making body of an Evangelical regional church .

The Evangelical Church in Württemberg is the only church in Germany to have the system of primary election for the members of the regional synod. All parishioners who have reached the age of 14 and who reside in the area of ​​the Württemberg regional church are entitled to vote . This regional synod has 96 members, of which 30 pastors and 60 lay people are elected directly by the church people every six years. Up to six people are called by the synod. The last election took place on December 1, 2019.
