Rudolf Detering

Rudolf Detering (born October 24, 1892 in Osnabrück , † November 29, 1977 in Hildesheim ) was a German Lutheran theologian and state superintendent of the Hildesheim district of the Evangelical Lutheran. Regional Church of Hanover.

Life

Detering attended the Ratsgymnasium in Osnabrück and studied theology as an artillery officer in Marburg and Berlin after participating in the First World War . He joined the Marburger Wingolf . He was ordained on October 21, 1920 . He was initially an assistant pastor at the Neustädter Church in Hanover before he was given a pastor's post in Wietzen in 1921 . In 1928 he became pastor at the Luther Church in Osnabrück, in 1935 pastor and superintendent in Goslar . When the regional superintendents were formed in 1936, regional bishop August Marahrens appointed him regional superintendent of the Hildesheim-Harz district in Goslar. After Goslar was assigned to the regional church in Brunswick, the office of the regional superintendent was relocated to Hildesheim in 1943. The Michaeliskirche in Hildesheim became the new spiritual center of the Sprengels. On July 1, 1961, Detering retired when it reached the age limit.

As chairman of the board of the former women's home of the Inner Mission in Himmelsthür near Hildesheim (since 1939), the deaconess mother house Ariel in Göttingen-Weende, the Hildesheimer blind mission and the west center of the Leipzig mission, Detering was also involved in the diaconal area. As chairman of the board of directors of the women's home in Himmelsthür (1939–1968), he saved around 200 sick people from euthanasia during the Nazi era . Under his leadership, the home grew to become the largest facility of its kind in Lower Saxony with 1,800 beds.

In 1948 Detering was one of the founders of the Protestant church building works in Hildesheim.
