Hans-Hermann Jantzen

Hans-Hermann Jantzen (born September 28, 1945 in Polle an der Weser ) is a German Lutheran theologian . From 1997 to 2011 he was state superintendent for the Lüneburg district of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover and from 2010 to 2011 he was also the episcopal vicar of his regional church.

Live and act

Hans-Hermann Jantzen grew up as the son of the Protestant superintendent in Cadenberge and has been a member of the Association of Christian Scouts and Boy Scouts since 1956 . After graduating from high school at the Athenaeum Stade , he studied Protestant theology at the Universities of Göttingen and Tübingen from 1965 to 1970 . After the first theological exam, he spent a year studying in Dallas , Texas / USA .

From 1971 to 1973 Jantzen completed his vicariate in Hildesheim and passed the Second Theological Examination in 1973.

In 1973 Jantzen took over his first pastor's position in Lehrte near Hanover and from there in 1980 he went to Hildesheim, where he worked as a study inspector at the St. Michaelis seminary .

In 1986 Hans-Hermann Jantzen was appointed pastor at the Petrikirche in Göttingen-Grone and at the same time as superintendent of the church district Göttingen-Nord. After an eleven-year tenure there, he was appointed - as successor to Hans-Christian Drömann - in 1997 to the state superintendent of the Lüneburg district of the Evangelical Lutheran regional church of Hanover and as such was a member of the bishops' council of his regional church.

On February 25, 2010, after the resignation of the regional bishop Margot Käßmann , Jantzen was appointed episcopal vicar by the church senate and thus commissioned with the provisional management of the regional church . His retirement as a state superindentendent was originally planned for September 26, 2010. On March 13, 2011, Jantzen was adopted as retiring. His job as Episcopal Vicar ended on March 26, 2011, when the newly elected Bishop Ralf Meister took office .

Jantzen is married to the dentist Ursel Jantzen and has two grown children.
