Christoph Meyns
Christoph Meyns (born January 22, 1962 in Bad Segeberg ) is a German Evangelical- Lutheran theologian and since June 1, 2014 Regional Bishop of the Evangelical-Lutheran Church in Braunschweig .
Life
Christoph Meyns grew up as the son of a pastor and a church musician in Todesfelde and Wahlstedt . There he led youth groups and spent a year as an exchange student in Kansas City . In 1982 he graduated from the Dahlmann School in Bad Segeberg . From 1982 to 1989 Meyns studied Protestant theology at the Universities of Kiel and Tübingen with a focus on systematic theology and hermeneutics .
After taking his first theological exam, he was a scholarship holder of the North Elbish Church at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Papua New Guinea from 1989 to 1990 . From 1990 to 1992 the vicariate at the Breklum seminary and at the Church of Reconciliation in Husum followed . From 1992 to 2007 Meyns was parish pastor in North Frisia and part-time as a parish advisor.
In 2007 he was appointed to the position of commissioner of the church leadership for the evaluation of the North Elbe reform process. From June 2012 he worked in the regional church office of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Northern Germany in the Theology and Journalism department.
On November 23, 2013 he was elected by the Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Braunschweig in the third ballot to succeed Friedrich Weber in the office of regional bishop. He took office on June 1, 2014.
On June 25, 2016, Meyns was appointed as the new representative for contact with the evangelical communities .
For his commitment within the framework of the partnership between the regional church of Braunschweig and the Diocese of Blackburn , he received the honorary title "Ecumenical Canon" (Ecumenical Canon) of Blackburn Cathedral from the Church of England in 2016 .
