The magazine proclamation and research brings reviews from the theological disciplines in collected form . Each issue has its own thematic focus, which is designed from the perspective of the respective discipline. In addition, there are thematic reviews that supplement the thematic focus from the perspective of neighboring theological subjects or as highlights on current topics of conversation in church , school and society. The book reviews are written with clear accents.

The magazine is aimed at students, religion teachers and pastors. It was founded in 1934 by Ernst Wolf and continued by Gerhard Sauter . The editors today include Heinrich Assel, Reiner Anselm (2013), Heinrich Bedford-Strohm (2011–2012), Christfried Böttrich , Irene Dingel , Bernhard Dressler , Beate Ego, Friedhelm Hartenstein, Anne Koch, Andreas Nehring, Klaus Raschzok , Samuel Vollenweider, Martin Wallraff and Michael Welker , the editing is done by the Greifswald theologian Henning Theißen .
