In doing so, he put the evangelist in relation to the theology of Hellenistic Judaism . In addition, he researched early Jewish writings related to the New Testament and, like most Protestant New Testament scholars, dealt more intensively with the apostle Paul . He became known to a wider audience through his books on biblical personalities, which were written for interested laypeople, including the series written together with Beate Ego and Friedmann Eißler , in which the views of Judaism , Christianity and Islam on central biblical figures are to be presented. Böttrich takes on the representation of the Christian perspective in these books.
