The Theological Study House Greifswald , the official name of the Foundation Theological Study House Greifswald , was founded in 1897 by Victor Schultze in Steinstrasse. 3 founded in Greifswald as an institution for the academic and theological promotion of young talent. Since 2007 the study house has been an independent foundation of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church and from 2012 of the Pomeranian Church District of the Northern Church . Its purpose is primarily to offer students of theology and religious education inexpensive living space with individual study support.

history

Victor Schultze founded the facility in Greifswald on April 20, 1897. With Hermann Cremer , it received a patron who made Bible exegesis and home devotion the core content of the program. The study house was originally intended as a facility for the academic and theological promotion of young talent. Representatives of “ positive ” theology should be produced here. Even if this goal was a transitory stage, many inspectors became professors for a long time. Albrecht Alt and Martin Noth are the best known of them to this day. The history of the house was shaped primarily by the students. In 1927 the National Socialist Student Union of Greifswald was founded here. Women have also been admitted since 1966.

The study house today

Today the Theological Study House is a separate foundation of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church. The house offers space for 18 theology and religious education students from the University of Greifswald and has a well-equipped library. There is an exchange with the Evangelical Monastery in Tübingen, where students can spend one lecture period free of charge in the Tübingen Monastery.

management

The foundation is managed by a board of trustees. This includes two representatives of the Pomeranian Evangelical Church District, who are appointed by the Church District Council, the dean of the theological faculty, two full professors of this faculty (including the Ephorus ), who are appointed by the church district council at the suggestion of the faculty, and the senior of the study house. The senior is elected from the residents of the house for two semesters. The inspector takes part in the meetings of the Board of Trustees in an advisory capacity. Meetings of the Board of Trustees usually take place twice a semester in public.
