Ernst Bizer
Ernst Bizer (also: Ernestus Bizer, born April 29, 1904 in Tailfingen , † February 1, 1975 in Remscheid ) was a German Protestant theologian .
Life
Ernst Bizer came from a middle-class background and first attended the elementary school in Tailfingen, then the secondary school in Ebingen . He passed his Abitur in Reutlingen because this was not possible in Ebingen at the time. In 1923 he began to study theology in Tübingen , where he took the exam in 1930.
Then Bizer was city vicar in Göppingen and catechist in Heilbronn . From 1934 to 1948 he was the second parish priest in Tailfingen. He was hostile to National Socialism . As early as 1932 he was noticed in Göppingen through critical remarks. He was drafted into the Wehrmacht, took part in the Second World War and was taken prisoner.
He had already dealt with the confessional writings of the Reformation in his Tailfinger time from 1934 . The University of Bonn awarded him a doctorate and appointed him to the chair there for Protestant Church History. Since 1948 he was there university professor and full professor for church history, as successor to Wilhelm Goeters . His works and studies, e.g. B. about Martin Luther and his theological views raised a lot of dust. He was of the opinion that Luther only developed his theological views after the theses were posted . Bizers student Oswald Bayer developed this thesis in his work Promissio. History of the Reformation turn in Luther's theology , which today is considered a milestone in Luther research of the 20th century across all positions. According to this, Luther represented a monastic theology of humility up to the early summer of 1518 and only then, documented for the first time in the series of theses “Pro veritate inquirenda et timoratis conscientiis consolandis”, based on the understanding of the gospel as a promissio (“promise”), found a purely Reformation expression of his theology.
