Narziss (formerly Narziss ) was a German metalcore band from Jena that existed from 1998 to 2011.

history

The founding members were Johannes Müller, Ralf Ritter, Jörg Rebelein and Frank Berger. Narcissus played a single concert with this line-up. Since Jörg Rebelein and Frank Berger had founded the band Nail at the same time, they split up in November due to time differences. The missing positions could already be filled with new members in December (Steffen Adolf, Robert Jende, Daniel Sondermann). This occupation also did not last long. Due to personal differences between Ralf Ritter and the rest of the band, they parted ways with him in the early summer of 1999 after about a dozen concerts. Alexander Bartsch became the band's new singer.

After several publications known only in the underground , the band first managed to get noticed by renowned music magazines with the album Neue Welt , which was released in 2004 . The most successful year to date followed, in which Narcissus played concerts with Hatebreed , Caliban , Callejon , Agnostic Front , Neaera , Napalm Death and Fear My Thoughts, among others . On August 25, 2006, the new album Solang the heart beats appeared on the Alveran Records label , which the band signed in 2006. After the band had split from Alveran Records due to differences and signed with Redfield Records, the album Echo was released there in 2009 . Thematically, the album contains, among other things, songs based on the individual band members and their lives.

In 2007 the band played together with Heaven Shall Burn , Neaera and All That Remains at the Wacken Open Air .

In May 2011 the band announced their breakup.

Surname

In choosing the name, the band referred to the figure of Narcissus from Greek mythology . When searching for a band name, the idea of a proper name was preferred. The name Narcissus fulfilled this requirement as well as being charged with the legendary substance. Some members of the band were of the opinion that a part of the figure of Narcissus could be found in every person.

style

The band attracted attention in particular because of the German-language lyrics, which are unusual in the metalcore music genre. For foreign fans, the band put English translations of many songs on their website. She also released the album Hope Dies , on which some songs were re-recorded and provided with English lyrics.
