from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The HSH Nordbank blue race was a regatta over 3600 nautical miles on the North Atlantic from Newport (Rhode Island) in the USA to Cuxhaven .

history

The HSH Nordbank blue race 2007 was the repetition of the transatlantic regatta initiated by the North German Regatta Association (NRV) in 2003 under the name DaimlerChrysler North Atlantic Challenge (DCNAC). The NRV and the New York Yacht Club (NYYC) jointly organized this regatta.

The regatta route corresponded to the DCNAC : start in front of Newport (Fort Adams), passing the imaginary turning point Point Alpha in the Atlantic to safely sail around the ice line south, then further across the North Atlantic and in the northern arc around Scotland (turning point: Isle of Fair Isle on Starboard ) further through the North Sea to the goal lighthouse Alte Liebe abeam on the Elbe in front of Cuxhaven.

On June 16, 2007, 21 yachts started in a first group. A week later, on June 23, 2007, three more ships, the largest and fastest of the fleet, took off to arrive at their destination at around the same time.

The event ended with a large port festival at the Kehrwiederspitze in the Port of Hamburg (award ceremony in Hamburg City Hall).
