Georg Kohler

Georg Kohler (* 1945 in Konolfingen ) is a Swiss philosopher , journalist and emeritus professor for political philosophy at the University of Zurich .

Kohler studied philosophy in Zurich and Basel and graduated with an examination of the Kantian aesthetics as lic. phil. from. In addition to his work as an assistant to Hermann Lübbe and writing his dissertation on Kant's “ Critique of Judgment ” with Rudolf W. Meyer , he completed a second degree in law and graduated with a lic. iur. from. In 1980 he was promoted to Dr. phil. PhD .

In the 1980s he worked in the private sector and as a freelance journalist. In 1988 he submitted his habilitation thesis “Acting and Justifying. Investigations on the Structure of Practical Rationality », which was accepted, and became a private lecturer at the University of Zurich.

After a substitute chair at the Geschwister-Scholl-Institut of the University of Munich , he was appointed full professor at the chair for political philosophy in Zurich in 1994 as successor to Hermann Lübbe , where he taught until his retirement . He was a member of the foundation board of the Liberal Institute . Kohler published and publishes regularly in daily newspapers, especially in the Neue Zürcher Zeitung , but also in Blick and the Tages-Anzeiger . Most recently, he appeared as an analyst in the DOC series When Switzerland's breath stopped the Swiss television on.

Georg Kohler is widowed, his second marriage to the journalist, news anchor and publisher Dominique Rub .
