Geographically located in the Kiesental , Konolfingen, which is around 660 meters high, is often referred to as the gateway to the Emmental . The community includes u. a. the hamlets and towns of Herolfingen , Hürnberg , Ursellen , Ballenbüel and Hötschigen .
history
The history of the community of Konolfingen is still young. It was not until 1933 that today's Konolfingen emerged from the merger of the two communities of Gysenstein and Stalden in the Emmental , which is also what gives the district its name. But the name Chonolfingen appeared for the first time as early as 1148 . Gysenstein is first mentioned as Gisenstein in 1226 .
But even before that, in 1864, Konolfingen experienced a boost in development with the opening of the station on the new railway line between Bern and Langnau . Konolfingen was soon connected to Lucerne through this route and thus also had a connection to the Gotthard Railway, which was being planned . With the connection to the Burgdorf – Thun line from 1899, Konolfingen experienced a strong upswing. B. manifested in the settlement of the then Bernese Alpine dairy company. For the Burgdorf – Thun Railway, which was the first fully electrically operated railway line in Europe, a depot was built at Konolfingen station for the maintenance of the vehicles and for the construction of a wide variety of aids.
The Bernese Alpen-Milchgesellschaft was taken over by Nestlé in the early 1970s . Infant and health food and Stalden creams are produced. With just over 1000 employees in its research center and factory, Nestlé is by far the most important employer in Konolfingen (as of 2015). The manufactured products are exported to over 90 countries.
Hünigen Castle is located in the area of the former municipality of Stalden .
In connection with Konolfingen, the name Friedrich Dürrenmatts is often mentioned , who was born in 1921 in the reformed rectory of Stalden.
