history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1273 under the name Tegersche . Later the names Tegerschi (1380), Tägertsche (1530) and Tägertschi (1531) appeared. The place name originally meant for the large ash tree ; the first part of the name «Teger-» can also be found in the place names Degerloch and (presumably) Tegernsee .

Tägertschi has been under the rule of Münsingen since the Middle Ages and shared their fate. The sovereignty over the area initially belonged to the Counts of Kyburg and from 1406 was in the hands of the city of Bern, which assigned the village to the Konolfingen district court. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Tägertschi belonged to the Höchstetten district during the Helvetic period and from 1803 to the Konolfingen Oberamt, which received the status of an official district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831. The area was changed in 1923 when the hamlet of Ämligen was separated from the then municipality of Stalden in the Emmental and Tägertschi was incorporated. The village does not have its own church, it belongs to the Münsingen parish.
