The Barschwand farms with the western Kurzenberg belonged to the Diessbach lordship (from 1798 the Helvetian district of Steffisburg, from 1803 Oberamt and from 1831 the Konolfingen district) and to the parish of Oberdiessbach . The dwarf property community with its own commons had grazing rights in the Birrmoosallmend and, with the Kurzenberg, timber usage rights in the Bernese authorities' Toppwald. In 1834 Barschwand was established as a community of residents. Due to its small size, it was merged with Ausserbirrmoos in 1887 and has been part of the Linden community since 1945 .
