Until December 31, 2017, Mühledorf was a political municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district of the canton of Bern in Switzerland . On January 1, 2018 , Mühledorf merged with the former municipalities of Gelterfingen and Noflen to form the new municipality of Kirchdorf .

geography

Mühledorf lies at 605  m above sea level. M. , eleven kilometers northwest of the city of Thun (as the crow flies). The farming village extends on the southern foothills of the Belpberg between the valley plains of the Gürbe in the west and the Aare in the east, west of the Gerzensee .

The area of ​​the community area of ​​2.3 km² covers a section of the wide Aare valley between Bern and Thun. The eastern part of the community lies on the undulating plateau of the southern Belpberg, which was shaped by the ice age Aar glacier. In the far east the area extends to the banks of the Gerzensee. At 630  m above sea level M. the highest point of Mühledorf is reached at the height against the municipality of Gerzensee. To the west, the communal soil extends into the agriculturally intensively used Gürbetal plane and extends over the canalized Müsche to about the middle of the 1.5 km wide plane. In 1997, 7% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 6% for forests and woodlands and 86% for agriculture; a little less than 1% was unproductive land.

Several farm groups and individual farms belonged to the community of Mühledorf. Neighboring communities of Mühledorf were Gerzensee , Kirchdorf , Mühlethurnen , Kirchenthurnen and Gelterfingen .

With 261 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2017), Mühledorf was one of the small communities in the canton of Bern. 97.3% of the residents speak German, 1.1% speak French and 1.1% speak Romansh (as of 2000). The population of Mühledorf was 277 in 1850, and 220 in 1900. In the course of the 20th century, the population decreased by a further 40% to 137 people by 1960 due to strong emigration. Since then, the population has increased significantly again.

The voting shares of the parties on the occasion of the National Council elections in 2015 were: SVP 44.9%, BDP 19.0%, SP 9.8%, FDP 7.6%, glp 4.1%, GPS 3.8%, EPP 3.4 %.

economy

Until the second half of the 20th century, Mühledorf was predominantly an agricultural village. Even today, arable and vegetable growing (especially cabbage planting) in the Gürbetal, as well as dairy farming and cattle breeding, have an important place in the income structure of the population. Further jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector. In the last few decades the village has developed into a residential community thanks to its attractive location. Many employed people are therefore commuters who work mainly in the larger towns in the area, in the agglomeration of Bern or in the Thun area.

Mühledorf is very well developed in terms of traffic, although it is located away from the larger thoroughfares on a connecting road from Kirchenthurnen to Kirchdorf . The closest connection to the A6 motorway (Bern – Thun) is around 5 km from the town center. Mühledorf is connected to the public transport network through the Postbus courses, which serve the routes from Kaufdorf to Wichtrach and from Münsingen to Kirchdorf.

history

The place was first mentioned in a document in 1364 under the name Mulidorf . In the Middle Ages , Mühledorf first belonged to the area of ​​the Lords of Kramburg, from 1373 to the property of the Johanniterkommende in Münchenbuchsee . After the Reformation , the village came under direct Bernese rule and was subordinate to the Seftigen district court. The lower jurisdiction was initially at Gelterfingen, but was transferred to Mühledorf in the 18th century (Vennergericht). After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Mühledorf belonged to the Seftigen district during the Helvetic period and from 1803 to the Seftigen district, which received the status of an official district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.

Attractions

In the Längmoos there is a three-storey manor house from 1795 with a ründe in an extensive garden. A granary has been preserved from the 16th century. The single-storey Landhaus Fimelen (1923) in the historicizing architectural style is also located in a large park. Mühledorf does not have its own church, it belongs to the parish of Kirchdorf.
