Oberhünigen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland . The community has only existed since January 1, 1980, before Oberhünigen belonged to Schlosswil as an exclave .

geography

Oberhünigen lies at 852  m above sea level. M. , 3 km east of Konolfingen and 18 km east-south-east of the canton capital Bern (linear distance). The farming village extends on the north-western slope of the Kurzenberg in the area of ​​the Bärbach valley, high above the Chise valley .

The area of ​​the 6.0 km² municipal area covers a section of the pre-alpine hill country east of the Aare valley . The north-western part of the municipality is taken up by the slope near Oberhünigen on both sides of the Barbach and subdivided by various hills. In the west the area extends to the Hünigenbach . To the east and south, the municipality extends into the extensive Toppwald ( 1089  m above sea level ) and on the ridge of the Kurzenberg with the heights of Chnubel ( 1162  m above sea level ), Äbersold ( 1135  m above sea level ) and Ringgis (at 1190  m above sea level, the highest point in Oberhünigen). The eastern boundary of the municipality runs in the Wildeneigraben , a valley cut deep into the northern slope of the Kurzenberg by a source brook of the Chise. In 1997, 4% of the municipal area was settled, 58% forest and woodland, 37% agriculture and a little less than 1% was unproductive land.

Oberhünigen includes the hamlets of Lochmatt ( 797  m above sea level ) on Bärbach and Äbersold ( 1107  m above sea level ) on the ridge of the Kurzenberg, as well as several farm groups and individual farms. Neighboring communities of Oberhünigen are Mirchel , zziwil , Bowil , Linden and Niederhünigen .

history

The place was first mentioned in 1148 under the name Huningen superiori ; The name Oberhunigen has been handed down from 1374 . The place name goes back to the Old High German personal name Huno and therefore means for the people of Huno .

In the Middle Ages Oberhünigen was initially part of the Hünigen rule, then it came to the Wil rule, which was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Kyburg . In 1406 the village came under the rule of Bern and was assigned to the Konolfingen district court. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Oberhünigen belonged to the Höchstetten district during the Helvetic Republic and from 1803 to the Konolfingen Oberamt, which received the status of an official district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.

Politically, Oberhünigen was always an exclave of Schlosswil , but it was a long way from this municipality. Therefore, it was decided to separate Oberhünigen and become an independent municipality, which became legally binding on January 1, 1980.

With 313 inhabitants (as of December 31, 2018) Oberhünigen is one of the small communities in the canton of Bern. 96.3% of the residents speak German, 2.0% speak Serbo-Croatian and 0.7% speak Dutch (as of 2000). The population of Oberhünigen was 275 in 1980. There has been a slight increase in population in recent years.

The voting shares of the parties in the 2015 National Council elections were: SVP 52.2%, EDU 11.3%, BDP 11.0%, SP 6.9%, EVP 5.8%, glp 4.8%, GPS 4.2 %, FDP 3.3%.

economy

Up until the second half of the 20th century, Oberhünigen was a village dominated by agriculture . Even today, the dairy industry and animal husbandry and forestry an important role in the employment structure of the population. Other jobs are available in local small businesses and in the service sector, including in wood processing companies. In the last few decades the village has developed into a residential community. Some workers are therefore commuters who mainly work in the larger towns in the area.

The community is located off the major thoroughfares, but can be easily reached from Konolfingen and zzawil . Oberhünigen has no connection to the public transport network.
