Oberbalm ( Bern German Oberbaum [ ˈɔb̥əɾˌb̥a͜um ]) is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

geography

Oberbalm is located in a foothills of the Alps between Bern and Schwarzenburg. The lowest point is around 650  m above sea level. M. am Scherlibach, where the municipality borders on its most important neighboring village Niederscherli in the municipality of Köniz , the highest point at 987  m above sea level. M. near the border to the neighboring community of Niedermuhlern . In addition to the actual village center, the southern part of the village Borisried belongs to Oberbalm.

politics

The municipal assembly is the legislature of Oberbalm. The municipal council is the executive of Oberbalm.

The voting shares of the parties in the 2015 National Council elections were: SVP 58.7%, SP 10.3%, BDP 10.0%, GPS 6.6%, glp 4.2%, EVP 3.0%, EDU 2.3 %, FDP 2.4%, ALP 1.3%, CVP 0.9%.

economy

Economically, Oberbalm is still strongly characterized by agriculture. The majority are local farmers and agricultural infrastructure companies (cheese factories).

Oberbalm is well connected to the surrounding larger towns and the city of Bern via streets . In addition, the village is connected to the regional public transport network by postbus.

In Oberbalm, the open-air festival Outdoor Elch (rock music) takes place on the Balmberg every summer . Oberbalm has a primary school.

The St. Sulpitius church is located in the village center of Oberbalm. Of particular interest are the frescoes from 1470 to 1480 on the walls of the nave. Old wolf nets are also kept in the church.

There are three old farm buildings in the in Oberbalm of national importance list of cultural assets were taken: a farmhouse (Stöckli 203) and two memory (Horbermatt 114 Oberbalmstrasse 209 A).
