Niederscherli ( Bernese German Niderscherli [ nɪd̥ɾˌʃɛːɾli ]) is the sixth largest village of the municipality Köniz in Switzerland and has 2,229 inhabitants. It is located southwest of the main town of Köniz and can be reached in 18 minutes by S-Bahn from Bern . The word component -scherli in the place name probably goes back to the Old High German personal name Skerilo .

In the upper part of the municipality of Köniz, Niederscherli acts as a center for the surrounding villages. Despite the relatively few inhabitants, the village offers a wide range of shops and numerous craft shops. The elementary school with kindergarten is on Haltstrasse, the upper school building at the entrance to the village on Schwarzenburgstrasse. In addition to the old village center on Schwarzenburgstrasse, the “Bifit”, the “Halt” and the “Sonnenberg” are popular residential areas.

In 1846, the first post office was built in Niederscherli, but it was closed again the following year. The filing was reopened in 1860 and expanded into a post office in 1890. The post office was moved several times. Due to the population growth, more modern post offices were opened in 1985 on the road to the station, near the Niederscherli train station.

With a sports field, forests in the immediate vicinity and the Scherligraben, Niederscherli offers relaxation and leisure space. A mixture of clubs with a classic orientation (sport, music, customs) complements the leisure offer.
