Liebefeld ( Bern German Liebifäud [ ˈli͜əb̥ifæ͜ʊd̥ ]) is a village in the municipality of Köniz in the canton of Bern ( Switzerland ).
history
The name is derived from the name of the Alemannic settler Liebo . It belongs to the municipality of Köniz and forms its northern border with the city of Bern . The transition of the settlement area from the main town of Köniz to Liebefeld is fluid. In Liebefeld in the field of vocational training Steinhölzli is one of the oldest dated storage of the Canton of Bern, built in 1548 as Bohlenblockbau . The population recorded a rapid increase from 205 inhabitants in 1905 to 7273 in 1950. After that, the number fell steadily to just under 5000 people; From 2003 to December 2015, the resident population grew again by over 20% to 6,160. Due to the increase in residents and jobs, the volume of traffic also increased. The municipality of Köniz is therefore working with the city of Bern to expand public transport. The project for a tram line from Ostermundigen to Schliern failed in 2014 because of the urn. An expansion of the S-Bahn and a connection to the emerging "bicycle capital Bern" is planned. The municipality of Köniz began this project to improve bicycle traffic and make it safer in 2017. The municipality of Köniz wants to achieve this by widening bicycle lanes (1.5 meters instead of the legal minimum width of 1.25 meters) and making roundabouts safer. In addition, she would like to increase the percentage of cyclists in traffic.

In August 2009, the Liebefeldpark was opened on a part of the Dreispitz area on which a field of the agricultural research institute was previously located. At 36,000 square meters, the public park is the size of five football fields. Trees, meadows, promenades and a large pond at the northern end of the park invite you to linger. Playgrounds and seats provide places to stay for the population.
