Gasel ( Bern German Gasu [ 'kasu ]) is a village and a district in the municipality of Köniz in the Swiss canton of Bern .

General

Gasel is located in the south of the city of Bern and with 748 inhabitants is one of the smaller villages in the municipality of Köniz. In contrast, the Gasel district, with an area of over nine square kilometers, is the largest in the municipality of Köniz. With its many farmhouses, Gasel is still very rural in the area. However, there are also some small and medium-sized businesses and apartment buildings in the center. Public transport: The BLS line S6 (Bern – Schwarzenburg) runs every half hour. Bern can be reached in 16 minutes and Köniz in 4 minutes by train.

history

Gasel is located south of Köniz. The name is derived from the Latin casale 'belonging to the house', 'country house'. As an experiment, the settlement name was also interpreted as a new formation from around 1600 to the Italian appellative casolare 'farm' in religious meaning as 'crib' (due to the “religious meaning that is in all important place names”), but a number speaks of Facts against this assumption: The name of the settlement has been documented many times since the 13th century; There can be no question of a religious meaning that should be found in all important place names; the area had been reformed since 1528, so the proximity to a pilgrimage route cannot have given the name; the phonetic development from casolare to gasel is unexplained; there is no reason for a singular Italian name in an area that was never Italian.
