history

Memorial of the Battle of Laupen on the Bramberg, Neuenegg municipality

Under the command of Johann Rudolf von Graffenried, the Bernese won the Battle of Neuenegg on March 5, 1798, over the numerically superior French troops under Brigadier General Pigeon, with numerous support from German-Friborg troops, but were able to defeat the same day in the Battle of Grauholz after the Bernese defeat no longer prevent the collapse of the Ancien Régime . (From today's point of view, the fighting of the Bernese was inadmissible under international law, since their government had already capitulated.)

mail department

The first post office in Neuenegg was opened in 1833 in today's Gasthof Bären. Letters and parcels were delivered to Neuenegg and seven other villages in the vicinity three times a week. In 1861 a horse mail course was opened between Laupen and Flamatt and the following year the railway connection Bern-Balliswil (Düdingen) was inaugurated, which simplified mail distribution. Year after year, more delivery districts were added, so in 1883 the Neuenegg post office was responsible for 38 localities. By 2017, the post changed its seat four times.

School parade led by MG Sternenberg Neuenegg

The traditional school festival takes place in Neuenegg every year, one week before the end of the school year. Accompanied by the music society Sternenberg Neuenegg and other music societies from the region, the school parade takes place on Sunday mornings from the village towards the school and church center. Participants are all children aged 1–9. Class and kindergartens from all 5 schools (schools Dorf, Au, Thörishaus, Bramberg, Süri) Neuenegg.

March shooting

On the first Sunday in March, the Neueneggschiessen (or March Shooting), launched by the city of Bern's sniper club, takes place. Together with the gray wood shooting, it is one of the two historical shooting events in the canton of Bern that commemorate the French invasion of 1798 and the associated demise of old Bern. The event has existed since 1913 and is attended by shooting clubs from all over Switzerland.

The shooting itself is preceded by the ceremony in honor of the 135 dead in the battle near Neuenegg. After a sermon on the memorial accompanied by the Sternenberg music society and the men's choir, the winning group from the previous year, appearing as an honorary formation in historical uniform, fired three shots "into the cool grave". Afterwards, the parade of shooters and guests of honor goes to the village square, from where the actual shooting begins. However, the field shooting range is not located in the municipality, but on the opposite side of the scythe in Schrötern, near the Sense Bridge shooting range. The shooting takes place in groups of 8 people at a distance of 120 m.
