Others
In Kaufdorf there was an overgrown car cemetery with almost 800 cars, which had achieved international fame through press reports. Some cars were stored there, the year of construction going back to the 1930s. In contrast to similar places with decaying oldtimers, the operator refused entry to the public, so that the Kaufdorfer cars were not damaged by vandalism and, apart from natural decay, were often completely preserved. In 2008 the artist Heinrich Gartentor curated an art exhibition on this site. For legal reasons (environmental protection legislation), the junkyard should be closed in 2009. Between residents and authorities on the one hand and proponents of preservation as a museum on the other hand, there was controversial and sometimes heated discussions. Eventually all cars were removed by 2013.
