Niederhünigen is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district in the canton of Bern in Switzerland .

geography

Niederhünigen lies at 685  m above sea level. M. , 1.5 km east of Konolfingen and 16 km east-south-east of the canton capital Bern (linear distance). The farming village extends on the alluvial cone of the Hünigenbach on the eastern edge of the wide valley of the Chise , at the northwest foot of the Kurzenberg .

The area of the 5.4 km² municipal area comprises a section of the pre-alpine hill country east of the Aare valley . The northern border runs along the Chise, which flows here in a valley basin more than 1 km wide and is canalised or straightened. From the Chise, the municipality extends southeast over the Konolfingermoos and the flat alluvial cone of the Hünigenbach. The southeastern part of the municipality includes the catchment area of the Hünigenbach, which rises in the extensive Hohwald on the Kurzenberg and over time has formed an erosion valley in the slope of this ridge. The municipality boundary lies on the ridge of the Kurzenberg with the heights of Barschwandhubel ( 1116  m above sea level ), Chnubel (at 1162  m above sea level, the highest point in Niederhünigen) and Tanzplatz ( 1089  m above sea level ). In 1997, 5% of the municipal area was accounted for by settlements, 43% for forests and woodlands and 52% for agriculture.

Niederhünigen includes the hamlets of Geissrütti ( 701  m above sea level ) on the Hünigenbach and Holz ( 884  m above sea level ) on a leveled area in the upper part of the Hünigenbach valley as well as some groups of farms and individual farms. Neighboring communities of Niederhünigen are Konolfingen, Mirchel , Oberhünigen , Linden and Freimettigen .

history

The first written mention of the place took place in 1148 under the name Huningen inferiori ; The name Niderhunigen has been handed down from 1367 . The place name goes back to the Old High German personal name Huno and therefore means for the people of Huno .

In the Middle Ages Niederhünigen was part of the Hünigen rule, which was under the sovereignty of the Counts of Kyburg . The castle of the Lords of Hünigen was on the edge of the Chise Valley, burned down in 1588 and was later not rebuilt. In 1406 the village came under the rule of Bern and was assigned to the Konolfingen district court. After the collapse of the Ancien Régime (1798), Niederhünigen belonged to the Höchstetten district during the Helvetic period and from 1803 to the Konolfingen Oberamt, which received the status of an official district with the new cantonal constitution of 1831.
