Location of the municipality

Wohlen bei Bern is a municipality in the Bern-Mittelland administrative district of the canton of the same name in Switzerland .

Today Wohlen is a suburb or agglomeration municipality of Bern with the places Hinterkappelen, Wohlen, Illiswil, Murzelen, Innerberg, Uettligen, Möriswil and Säriswil. There are also various hamlets such as Oberdettigen, Hofen and Wölflisried.

geography

The southern boundaries is from Wohlensee formed, a reservoir of BKW energy for the Aar . The neighboring communities in the north, starting clockwise, are Meikirch , Kirchlindach , Bern , Frauenkappelen , Mühleberg , Radelfingen and Seedorf BE .

history

The name was first mentioned in 1185, in a papal bull . In 1275 the place was mentioned in the sound Wolun . Wohlen belonged to Savoy until 1410 and was last ruled by the Counts of Oltigen, who resided in Oltigen Castle in Radelfingen . When the last owner of Oltigen was slain in a popular uprising in 1410 and the impending war between Savoy and Bern was settled, the Oltigen rulership and Wohlen came to the city of Bern through a liquidation treaty for 5000 guilders.

The Arco School Säriswil has existed since 2005.

Sports

SC Wohlensee , founded in 1973, is the only football club in the municipality of Wohlen. The Heimplatz, the sports field Ey, is located directly on the Wohlensee below the Kappelenring development in Hinterkappelen.

The floorball team TV Wohlen, founded in 1988 and a sub-section of TV Wohlen, is the largest floorball club in the municipality.

The Wohlensee rowing club has been promoting rowing as a popular sport since 1997. In June 2016, the new boathouse with direct access to the Wohlensee was inaugurated in Hinterkappelen .

The VC Uettligen is the municipality's volleyball club with several women's teams, several junior teams and a mixed team.

nature

The community has a diverse natural environment with various landscape chambers from the Wohlensee up to the Frienisberg on its 36 square kilometers area. The Wohlensee is a water and migratory bird reserve of national importance. The protected area covers the upper part of the Wohlensee, from the Halenbrücke to the Wohleibrücke . It is an important resting place for waders, swimming ducks and diving ducks. It also offers a suitable wintering location for certain water birds and is characterized by an above-average number of species.
